Carlsbad  Life Style

Carlsbad began as a rural agricultural community and Santa Fe Railroad whistle stop, a place people passed through on their way to points north or south. In recent years, farms and flower fields have given way to corporate headquarters, and the Legoland theme park draws visitors from around the world. Also, The  Carlsbad's beaches remain one of San Diego's best kept secrets.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Established to preserve Carlsbad Cavern and numerous other caves within a Permian-age fossil reef, the park contains more than 100 known caves, including Lechuguilla Cave—the nation's deepest limestone cave at 1,567 feet (478m) and fourth longest. Carlsbad Cavern, with one of the world's largest underground chambers and countless formations, is highly accessible, with a variety of tours offered year-round.

Carlsbad State Beaches

This San Diego beach has popular campsites on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There are stairs provided to access the secluded beach to swim, surf, skin dive, fish or picnic. The beach is open to the public but there are no day-use facilities. South Carlsbad State Beach is located at Poinsettia Lane approximately 3 miles south of Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort and Hotel on Carlsbad Boulevard.

Carlsbad Flower Fields

Take yourself out of the ordinary and spend a few hours in one the Flower Fields. Kids can run and adults can linger in the 50 acres of color in bloom on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with a special nursery, garden, and gift shop by Armstrong Garden Centers, and festivals throughout the season. For over sixty years, the rolling hills of Carlsbad has been a spectacular and coordinated display of natural color and beauty. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are in a full bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life. This annual burst of color, which has become part of the area's local heritage, is also one of nature's official ways of announcing the arrival of spring.
